Kodaikanal - The misty mysterious mountain resort

| Munnar - The spice capital of the world
Munnar, which literally means ‘three rivers’, got its name from the confluence of three rivers near the town of Munnar. It has got all the necessary infrastructural facilities for the visitor and is yet beautifully secluded and far from the hustle and bustle of the city life. It is also well connected by road from Theni. The journey to Munnar along Western Ghats is in itself a once-in-a-lifetime experience. As you move up the dizzy heights, the plains of Tamil Nadu can be scene spread out like a large contour map below. |
Manicured tea gardens along scenic slopes are indeed a feast to the eyes. There are miles and miles of green tea gardens that cover the rolling hills on both sides of the winding roads. Eravikulam National Park where the rare Nilgiri tahr grazes gracefully along steep slopes and rain fed shola forests wedged in between these slopes are haven to several endemic and endangered varieties of flora and fauna. | Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary - Where the tigers roam
An enormous lake of crystalline water at Thekkady, 4 kilometres from Kumili town, forms the heart land of the sanctuary which is one of the largest wildlife reserves in India. It is also a famous tiger reserve. Sitting in the safety of the boat, the tourist can observe at his leisure herds of wild Asiatic elephants and other wild animals which come to the lake to drink and bathe. |
Boat rides in the lake, elephant rides inside the forest and guided wildlife adventure tours inside the reserve are unique and unforgettable experiences. Besides elephants and tigers, bison, spotted deer, sambar, leopard, stripe necked mongoose, malabar flying squirrel etc. are frequently sighted. |
At Thekkady and the nearby Kumili town, fresh and genuine hill produces such as the world’s best cardamom, organic tea and coffee, etc., can be purchased at bargain prices. The plantations of tea and cardamom on the way and around Thekkady are suitable for plantation tourism and offer to the tourist the most well kept plantations for observation and study. |
